Well first off I came here because of the exceptional science program, and I absolutely love it but other departments are lacking, but education and history are okay majors to get into and most of the faculty really care and most of the ones I have come into contact with will push you to do your best…but there is the saying "welcome to Juniata, where even your best isn't good enough"…it has made me upset and at times very stressed but in the long run I know I will be left with a meaningful education that will prepare me for the real world…nothing is a handout at this school when it comes to grades, you have to work hard…even if you graduate 9th in your class with a 3.9 like I did, but don't let that comment scare you away, if you are serious about education in the sciences come here! As for the housing, it is lacking and I don't like residential life…horrible experiences with them but if you have a good roommate and good neighbors you will be fine. There is also a party life here but there are people from all ends of that spectrum here from the social drinkers, to the party animals to the non-drinkers, they say there is no pressure to drink but there is, but you can easily avoid the parties and drinking if you want. The town isn't that great but the surrounding area is historical if you dig for it and there is lake raystown which has boating, swimming and trails, there is also the peace chapel which is an outdoor stone circle with a few trails but is kinda boring the same goes for the cliffs but if you are a free climber then go for it, there is a biking trail a few miles away if you have transportation and it's only 1/2 hour from penn state and shopping in state college. There is also a great field station if you are environmental majoring…I went there but it's more geared for environmental students…it's much nicer than campus but pretty isolated (with a three mile back road lane to get to it) but there is a shuttle one night a week to campus/stores (it's 30 mins away from campus). Bottom line is, great academics but res life is lacking. Also there is hunting but its central pa and its a big area for it, you are not in danger on campus though, hunting occurs outside of town (miles away)
