Finishing sophomore year here. Some observations, both good and bad: Most instructors here are amazing. But I had had a few that are beyond horrible. They are notorious for being bad, both on campus and online as rated by students. It's like there's no middle ground with quality of professors. I guess that's they way at any college. On campus food quality was great until this year, especially Hopper Hall. Sodexo has really messed up this year. Food is bad, and they close when they are supposed to be open- and half the food stations are always empty. There are some really low class inner city students here- guess they are on the Pell or other financial aid. Some really ghetto-like behavior. Most freshmen- they don't seem to last past the first year. Campus police are the nastiest I've seen anywhere. Not helpful or friendly, very heavy handed. All they do is parking enforcement. Notorious for being nasty dudes. That's probably the worst part of JSU. But some fantastic people here, also. Not a lot of money here. Students generally come from poorer backgrounds than Auburn and UA. Overall, students incredibly nice. A great nurturing friendly campus. Incredible band, and football and other sports are pretty decent. Lots of things to do on this sleepy little campus. Really feels like home. |
