I graduated LIU several weeks ago and am shocked at some of these comments- until I looked a little closer and realized that everybody that is commenting negatively is a first year student that is leaving and complaining about college in general.

I see most of these comments complaining about college food (everyone complains about their food in every school) and complaining about how cliquey everyone is and how there is no social life or weekend life. As with any school, as a freshmen, you need to put yourself out there to make friends. The fact that all of these comments are from freshmen that are transfering out and complaining about a lack of a social life definitely enforces the fact that they lacked the ability to put themselves out there and make the best.

As for my own experiences- I joined Greek Life on campus several years ago and it was great. There are no on campus houses, but each org definitely has one off campus and there are parties every weekend. Greek Life is general is very open to new people and DOES NOT haze. There have been orgs kicked off campus for hazing even once- there is a zero tolerance policy. All of these negative commenters clearly didn't attend any of these parties, despite the fact that there are hundreds of people and an open invitation.

There are TOO many clubs on campus- ranging from an account club to a twin club. It can be hard to keep track of what events are going on.

I just graduated with a degree in Business and am starting my job next week at a 70k salary in Long Island. LIU has all of the tools that you need and is small enough that you are not treated as a number. However, if you are the type of person that needs their hand held and can't navigate college and life on your own, then don't go here. The college is massive and the student body varied.

But if you are willing to spend the money on tuition and WANT the variety and individual attention, then go to LIU. Their latest program is entrepreneurship, so they recently started 4 student run businesses, brought an incubator to campus, etc. Students are encouraged to start their own business here with the help of the staff and the alumni network is being built very strongly.
