NMSU has its problems, as pointed out by many. However, ACES (the agriculture college) is one of NMSU's best features. I majored in Ag Biology and found the program to be rigorous, the faculty excellent, the advising excellent, and the program is also excellent. Plant and Environmental Sciences is pretty good while Fish, Wildlife and Conservation Ecology is notorious for bad advisors. Some programs in ACES are fairly weak (HRTM, FCS, FWCE, ARS) and I would not recommend them. Do not go into Animal Science unless you want to spend your life surrounded by rednecks and chewing tobacco. The alternatives in the Arts and Sciences College are not acceptable. Advising is poor to lousy and the faculty are unable to function outside their tiny little niches. Engineering at NMSU is locally overrated though nationally not that well respected. |
