New Saint Andrews College is dedicated to educating young men and women to be humble, fearless leaders through victorious Christian living. NSA offers very rigorous classical Christian liberal arts. They have a stellar Latin program, seminars in traditional Reformed theology, insightful and in-depth surveys of western culture—the literature and philosophy courses are particularly brilliant. I have particularly enjoyed their scientific colloquium which is geared more towards natural history. They offer an A.A., B.A., and have a Masters Program that is an extension of the Bachelor's program, though challenging in different ways and designed with the hope of producing strong writers and good theologians—you can choose your emphasis. You must be self-motivated to succeed here. This is a very specific institution geared toward students with a vision similar to those of the college and so they are very selective in their admissions process.Student body is a very small, tightly-knit group—NSA student culture that has a very particular flavor, as would any place with a small student body You can trust pretty much everyone. Overall everyone is friendly and open and interested in talking with outsiders, but there is the occasional hothead. Since the school is small there is not very much funding for extracurricular activities. The school can provide some support for extracurriculars that seem in line with the college's go but it is really upon the students to make their own opportunities. The athletic program is very young and includes IM men's rugby and women's volleyball, though there are opportunities throughout the city leagues for other sports—I participate in city league volleyball and am trying out the hockey league this year, though there are other opportunities for basketball, soccer, swimming, football, and ultimate frisbee. The college is always looking for ways to improve the athletic program and will often enlist students with a good amount of experience in the sports offered to help lead. The faculty are wonderful—they genuinely care for their students. I personally don't use office hours very often but I am always glad when I do. They are insightful, challenging, friendly, and kind. They want to see their students excel in their academics, of course, but they also care about you as a person. One of the things that makes this possible is the small student body.NSA is not for everybody. It draws a specific crowd and the academics are extremely challenging. It is not geared toward traditional vocation training and thus has broad application to many fields. Overall it has been a very enriching experience and I've grown and been stretched in ways that I never would have thought possible. |
