The school has terrible housing upkeep and charges an exceptional amount for tuition that gets spent on little to none of student related advances. it took them 3 years to update the software on the computers to the point where we could use 5 year old visual basic programming and still crashes causing hours of work to be lost. For 3 years i have been forced undo no notification or warning of new roommates of which i have faced property damage and theft. The school pisses money away on events that no one will attend and shows off parts of the campus like a horse and pony show yet when we ask for funding assistance in an activity that would actually bring an award and jobs to the school (SAE miniBaja) we are rejected and told the school is not able to fund anything because of current spending. The housing in detail is against 5 different counts of fire safety and it is a mystery as to how they got it approved. I have wall sockets hanging out of the walls. heat breaking in the middle of winter, asbestos and lead based paint lined walls. They have had a mold problem in more than 6 of the 9 major campus housings. The food is over priced and monopolized to the point where any activity on campus that bears the schools name is forced to pay extra for Aramark food. We paid $1.50 per can of coke for a fundraising barbeque for ASME, it put us in the hole $200.00 by the end of the fundraiser because we had to charge people over $2.00 for a simple drink. Do not go to this school, they lie and steal. Any senior project that goes to patenting regardless of the schools input or resources used immediately gives the school 50% of the patent claim for 7 years. failure to agree to the terms ends up with failing out or being expelled for breach of contract that has not yet been signed. the party life is good but don't get too attached to anyone in the engineering department as failing out and leaving due to irrational grading is common thing. 15 of 40 students were failed out of a Heat transfer class my first semester senior year by Yusef Haseli (brought in from MIT by Dr. mohammad Dini) because he "felt the students didn't try hard enough". I spent my entire thanksgiving break working on a heat trasnfer project for that teacher missing the dinner with family only for him to tell me he will not grade the assignment and my grade for the entire semester is now dependent upon the final exam. needless to say when he puts a problem that confirmed by 3 other professors would take a minimum of 1 hour to complete along with 4 others on an exam that is 2 hours long I did not do so well and finished his class with a D+. my class had a Dr. Lee who was more interested in the schools involvement with the Solar Decathalon that he didn't teach class. on the days he actually showed up he would watch youtube videos, hand out a worksheet and then for exams would go out for coffee breaks not wanting to stay and answer questions about his misspellings and grammatical errors of the exam. We have teachers Dr. Mindek and Dr. KJ who have not been in industry for more than 10 years yet insist on telling students that they know their field better than the books they force us to buy do. speaking of books, know what costs more than tuition at the school? the textbooks we are forced to buy, I know books are expensive all over but when your book is specifically incorrect on thread sizes and has not been used for teaching by anyone but friends of the author it says a lot about the quality. Do not go to this school, I should have transferred out years ago, the only thing keeping me now is the fact that I'm almost done and I met the love of my life here. everything else is a shit storm and I hope one day they have a big fire that kills a lot of students all because they are still to lazy to fix the smoke detectors in the houses.
