Mason is a good school. It has the reputation of an unsocial commuter school, but while we do have a lot of students who commute my class ('18) has around 60% living on campus, with the numbers going up each year. Mason is a place where you have to make your own fun socially-you won't be partying if you just wait around for an invite, but if you go out and find yourself fun it's a great time. One thing I like about Mason is that it really feels like we're in the real world here-people at Mason have jobs and internships and real-world responsibilities, and I think our graduates are better prepared for the real world than those of most universities. Mason has a budding Greek scene that's much more welcoming than that of most universities, and a plethora of clubs for every viewpoint and hobby you can think of. Sports are less of a focus here than at many schools, which is something that some students wish was different. Our basketball team is sadly mediocre right now (fire Hewitt!) but we play D1, so you get a lot of fun games like the annual fixture against VCU. We have an excellent soccer team, and a lot of popular club teams (especially hockey and ultimate frisbee). |
