The Department of Mathematics at SU is great! My minor is in organizational communication, so I have some experience with that department as well. Shorter was key in helping me get to where I am now. Some of the reviews may speak negatively of the atmosphere, but it's as if they expected a clearly-stated Christian school to be non Christian. If you understand you are attending a Christian school who is in association with the Georgia Baptist Convention and in the south, then the atmosphere should not come as a surprise. If you don't want a Baptist Christian atmosphere, the don't attend. As a transfer student, make sure you speak with your advisor about WHEN certain classes come around. Some are only offered on even or odd numbered years, so don't miss them. This is true for freshmen starting there too, they just have a little more time to play with. When placed with a peer mentor, take advantage of it, they have lots of knowledge about the school already. Hang out in the FSU to meet new people, especially commuters who may not feel as involved. Ask questions; your education is in your hands now. |
