At first I felt negatively about the school but it is truly is all about perspective. No one is going to hand over information unless you take the steps to receive it. There are many resources at this school and you need to be willing to step up and seek them out. Too many people, myself included, were not determined and failed to understand how that impacted their experience at GMU.Oddly enough, Mason is seen as a commuter school but they are doing a lot to change that perception. While I wish it happened years earlier, there were more and more weekend and evening activities for those at Mason by the time I graduated. If I wanted to, I could find an event every other night to go to with my friends. More variety could help but I heard from others that Mason is tackling that too. Don't be afraid to ask around, be apart of organizations, and live on floors that are meant to add value to your studies and life on Mason (ex: International student floor, Mindful living, etc ). These things will really just help your experience.In addition, don't forget to monitor the time it takes for you to graduate. That's something you will be doing on your own. Take advantage of internship experience in the DMV area and see if it can count as credit (some majors will allow it). Take classes at a local college in your area to speed up your graduation date, if possible. Most kids I know at Mason didn't graduate at their intended time—usually due to lack of planning.Mason is a great school if you are willing to be proactive and network on occasion. When I finally reached doubt to professors and other faculty for their insight, they were all eager provide some sort of career or scholastic guidance. Good luck! |
