Marquette is a brand-name, that is all. Our facilities aren't particularly nice with exception to some of the specific programs like law, dental or engineering or the like. Our gym is old, the cafeteria food is limited, and especially in comparison to the nearby state school, student resources are pitiful. Anyone not affiliated with Marquette will be treated as such. Basketball players are known to get preferential treatment (especially when it comes to work load, and financial disbursement). Marquette University shows little to no mercy when it comes to school payments resulting in many students (even good students) removing themselves based on the inability to pay semesters upfront. The majority of teaching assistants in the Chemistry, Biology and Physics departments are foreign, smart but very difficult to understand. Many of the general counselors were unhelpful, and very passive when it comes to their students. (if you do attend, please seek a counselor in your desired field immediately). In as much, the classes at this school are designed to be non- transferable to other schools, as well as other majors. Many friends that had to transfer in sophomore, junior and even freshmen year, were unable to transfer a large amount of classes. One girl in her junior year at Michigan state, was considered a sophomore because Marquette accepted so few of her credits. Overall, the atmosphere at Marquette is unkind if you are not wealthy or on a full ride. One final word of advice: Remember to read your bulletin (it will show what classes are required for your major) and try to fulfill general requirements until you are SURE you have chosen your field. |
