I am a senior at EC having majored in CLS. I've been quiet about this for far too long and I am not going to sugar coat it any more. Elmira College falsely advertises the CLS major to perspective and current students. First of all, Elmira College does not force students to take the required classes to gain admission into one of the hospital affiliate sites. I will say they do offer the pre-req classes. However, they are not offered every single year. Immunology is one example. And if it is not offered YOU the student pay another 1700.00 dollars to go take the class online at another university and teach yourself…the college recommends UC Berkeley. My all time FAVORITE part is how I was forced to take comparative anatomy and animal physiology (how animals other than humans work), to earn the CLS major. First off, I work in a hospital. I should be taking (like the clinical sites want and warrant) HUMAN anatomy and phys like the nursing majors. After all, a clinical lab scientist is the eyes of the doctors and nursing staff so it makes TOTAL sense to have the curriculums aligned. In total, the major needs major updating. I sincerely hope you do not come to EC to major in CLS. Go some where else and save yourself the headache!
