If you're going to RMCAD, make sure you're fine, and I mean absolutely fine, with 1. being completely on your own most of the time and 2. dedicating your life to meaningless, easy art projects. For a school that's smaller than my high school was, it's incredibly easy to get isolated at RMCAD. People there live all over the place and can't get to know each other at all. They're constantly pushing you towards online classes, which makes sense for any other kind of college but for art school that's completely absurd, which is exactly the right word to describe RMCAD. I've heard it used to be a good school but it definitely isn't now. You won't feel inspired there, the classes go way too fast to really take the time to create anything meaningful or to the best of your ability, they just pile on more and more busywork to teach you 5th grade concepts like light and shadow. I'm usually a pretty reasonable person but the only positive thing I can really say about that school is that if you're the type of person looking to go to art school just because it sounds easy, RMCAD is the place for you to waste your money on. |
