Eastman has all the reputation. It's consistently ranked very high among U.S. music schools. I can see why as there are so many phenomenal teachers there. However the support for students is nonexistent. Unless you are the perfect person with zero problems who can take all the stress in the world, you will find so much unhappiness here. The school itself cares about results and maintaining its success. If you actually care about music and love it, you will be disappointed. Here, music is treated like math or science. It's all about the grade, the product, you are measured by your success. People here are driven, yes, but not for themselves. I didn't see a single person there who was doing music for themselves. They all did it for competition and desire to succeed. If this really is one of the best music schools in the U.S. the future of classical music is not looking good at all. |
