The university prides itself on having the "cohort system" which basically means all assignments are group work, the program I'm currently enrolled in is International Hotel Management, the majority of the workload is very vague and irrelevant, certain professors are exceptional at what they do, unfortunately the majority aren't helpful whatsoever. The cohort system is a fantastic idea IF YOU ARE LUCKY AND HAVE A GOOD PRESELECTED GROUP,if not you will absolutely be paired with international students, the regular ratio is 2 native Canadian Students and 3 international students. Unfortunately most of the international students lack communication skills, and amazingly lack speaking English and specifically writing. Hence it is almost always expected that the native speakers carry the workload. Most of the international students are extremely wealthy and frankly have 0 interest in this program or education in general and also some admittedly have 0 highschool education and or ILETS exam certification, some students even brag about how easy it is to purchase the ILETS and TOEFL exams back in (insert nation), hence the pressure on the native student to pass, and for that student to pass he must complete the whole given group work which is supposedly split into the whole group. The staff know this is an issue and a prevalent one, certain professor will mark your work seperatly but that is very rare. It's a unwritten rule that the Canadian Students must be leaders in the group. Another issue is that the university doesn't integrate the International students with Canadian expectations, speaking mandarin and or Cantonese in class is a regular occurrence, usually leaving the English speaking students lost in midst of group projects. This university focuses on money more than quality of education, and this is inevitably going to cause many legal issues for this university soon. I have contacted BC ministry of education and currently building a case to bring forth to the board. I highly recommend to avoid this school at all cost.
