Overall, I thought the academics were good, the professors took time to give you a perspective on the subject matter and taught you to think, and you had some professors who had been there for 3 or more decades and they had a lot of heart and would talk to you in their office. Socially, the school is a disaster! The students are completely immmature and avoid each other, they actually go out of their way to be nasty towards one another and the worst thing is they are dorky, so imagine that kind of dorky guy in high school getting to Santa Clara and joining a lame frat and thinking he's cool. I thought maybe I was on the fringe, but I heard most people had similar experiences, meeting people was really difficult, and people mostly just lived with the same people they had on their freshman hall floors just out of lack of social scene, even if these people weren't really their type of people. Leaving the school, I had zero connections with anybody beyond graduation, except a few professors were still social. The location is no-man's-land suburbia, you can walk to a few restaurants which are ok, but the best place to go is San Francisco on the Cal Train, (I had family up there so it was so nice to get away from horrible Silicon Valley on the weekends). Being Catholic, the school didn't really have much of a Catholic life; I would recommend doing a whole year or more abroad, I did, and it saved my whole social experience because when I got back for my senior year, I had had such a good time in Italy, that I didn't care about how lame SCU was, and I would go up to SF a lot on weekends.
