This place is very weird. It is like being in an alternate time and universe. Nobody has any idea of current issues and students are really out for themselves. They wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire. As far SIUC being a party school, I don't see that at all. I lived in Champaign-Urbana for many years and THAT was a party school. I went to UIC before coming to SIUC and the faculty is better here than UIC, but the students suck compared to UIC and the classes for GEN ED requirements are a JOKE. If you get anything less than a B in your GEN ED classes, you must really be doing something wrong. Getting an A in an SIUC class is like getting an D in most other schools. It is not very challenging at all and the TA's are not very good. Most of the classes are just powerpoint presentations that the instructor puts online anyway. I can read the damn book and the powerpoints, why do they need to take up the whole class to talk about it? The only classes I find challenging are in the Auto Tech Major, but most of the students there are real assholes who are being uber competitive for no reason. Anyway, I got 2 semesters left and I'm leaving here for good. This school sucks, this town sucks, the people suck, there is nothing to do here except outdoor stuff (which gets old very quickly), and the social scene here is way boring. If you are looking at IL schools, do yourself a favor and go to Chicago or Champaign-Urbana, as those are the only two areas worth living in, in this state. |
