I found the psychiatric nursing program to be pretty terrible. Students are tight for the first semester they spend together, but by the third they are throwing each other under the bus. Certain faculty members seem to make stuff up about students they just don't like. There is a high attrition rate, and males seem to be the first to go. The program also claims to be "science based", and it's usually true, but sometimes I wonder if they know what the word science means. "Some people say it works" isn't scientific evidence. There are a some big fans of so-called alternative medicine here. If you do this program, leave your personality at home. It will not be appreciated. They only want to hear exactly what they told you, even when they are asking for a 'personal reflection'!I could tell I was going to be failed out, and that nothing I did would change that. So I dropped it like a hot potato.Speaking of potatoes, the food service at Douglas is abysmal. But! This is not to say that all of Douglas is terrible, I very much enjoyed many aspects and was actively involved in more than a couple aspects of the school. Some faculty are terrific, but sadly they don't seem to have much of a say in things. It's just a shame the psych nursing program is so poorly run. |
