Northwestern State University has a inefficient Finance Department that ultimately hurts students during their undergraduate time and as alumni. My wife experienced several issues with NSU not being able to effectively manage her scholarships with tuition costs as an undergraduate. NSU's Finance Department consistently failed to process her scholarship funding in a timely manner which caused her to be charged directly for tuition and not accept scholarship funding. NSU also failed to review scholarship and grant funding for students the year I graduated, and the University distributed funds to many students without reviewing their scholarship/funding balance. This caused many students to be over-awarded and have to pay NSU back. I was over-awarded several thousand dollars that NSU claimed just a few days after graduation. I was informed that it did not matter if the debt was discovered before or after graduation. NSU then sent bills to a previously used address rather than my home of record. I left for military training shortly after graduating, which ultimately led NSU to submit my account to a collection agency when they did not receive a response from the old address. I found this unusual since NSU continued to send me alumni donation requests to my permanent home of record. I have heard of similar issues from other alumni. I find a consistent failure on the part of the Universities departments to coordinate with each other and track students' accounts. I highly recommend against attending NSU for any prospective students. |
