You're just a number here. This is a typical state school where if you fall between the cracks nobody cares. I thought that I would get individual attention because the school is relatively small and so is my department, and of course the school never tires of telling you that bc your professors aren't focused on research that they'll be focused on teaching and on you, but this isn't the case at all. For one, they still need to publish if they want go up in tenure (though not as much as research universities) and two, most simply don't have the time or interest in you, they think you're dumb and don't respect you for going to chico state. A handful of my teachers were supportive and really wanted you to be successful, but only a handful. Unless you're coming to this school for something very specialized or some kind of unique top program, I don't suggest coming here. And if you're a minority, you will truly feel out of place.
