My experience with Wayne State University has overall been a huge disappointment. The Welcome Center feels like you are at court waiting to pay a ticket or something. The university is very selective about the financial aid they give out but will raise the tuition very quickly each semester. The student life is very dead, but that is for the simple fact that this is more of a commuter campus than a welcoming university. There is an undertone of racism on campus between the students of different cultures. As far as the Economics department goes, I think some of the courses are good but they are more theoretical than quantitative. The math requirements are too low (MAT 1500 is all you need) and there are no courses that focuses in on statistical methods or courses that uses SQL, SAS, Ruby, etc. You can find those courses in different departments (Computer Science mainly), but I feel that it is really important to know these things for the corporate world. All in all, I feel that I was maliciously under prepared to go into the job market after graduating Wayne State University. I will not be going back from professional school. |
