Rockhurst University has been a great experience for me. If you are wanting to play sports in college, or major in something medical, you should really consider Rockhurst. The professors (in science especially) really know how to challenge you, and the smaller classes are usually a great fit for people who learn well in small groups. Most people socialize through the sports that they play, and others through sororities or fraternities. Keep in mind that there aren't as many options for greek life here at Rockhurst, as we are a small Jesuit University. If you are looking to go to a bigger school, the Rockhurst is probably not the school for you. It can be very conservative in certain ways, and it is pretty small—you get to know everyone pretty well. If you are like me, however, and like a smaller atmosphere, then Rockhurst should definitely be on your list of schools to check out! Rockhurst is a private school, so tuition isn't cheap. However, They do give GREAT financial aid to students, and offer lots of opportunities to work on campus. Kansas City is such a great place to live, and though the social experience at Rockhurst may not be what it's like at other schools, the location certainly makes up for it. There are things going on within a 5 mile radius of RU nearly every weekend—sometimes you just have to get creative. As for service and volunteer opportunities, if you are someone who likes to get involved with the community, Rockhurst does a fantastic job of helping you with that, and there are tons of different ways to give back to the community in KCMO. Rockhurst is not for everyone, so keep that in mind if you decide to check it out. It is small, conservative, and predominantly Christian, so it certainly isn't everyone's cup of tea. However, if any of those things appeal to you, I strongly urge you to think about it!
