City College of San Francisco is the only junior college in SF. giving It a very diverse school environment, in both the student and faculty population as well as class options and learning opportunities. In the time I have gone to CCSF I have had no negative experiences with my Professors and have thoroughly enjoyed my time and education there. What you can expect at CCSF-

The positives:

  • Wide Range of Majors, Certification Programs, and courses offered.
  • Diverse student body and faculty
  • Located in San Francisco
  • Very accessible to public transportation (Bus, BART, Muni, Uber)
  • Close to good food but not directly on campus
  • Urban Setting
  • Good Communication from CCSF admin to students (email updates, texts, emergency calls)
  • Friendly, engaging, personable professors - Who Care!
  • The DIEGO RIVERA 'Pan American Unity Mural' is displayed in CCSF's Diego Rivera Theater
  • The Negatives:

  • Campus is literally falling apart. Some new-ish buildings like the Wellness center (which does have amazing fitness, p.e., sport, dance, etc. courses), and the Multi-use Building which has various classes in it, but many buildings and facilities on campus are quite old and not upgraded or given funding for new equipment. My department is Art and I have to say it needs A LOT of help.
  • Administration is completely corrupt - therefore a lot of schools money has not gone back into the school. School is under a probation by the Board of Accreditation for various issues.
  • Lock your car doors? Well even that wont prevent your car from possibly being stolen in the parking lot. Mine was last year. Apparently mine was one of only two that year. SO I guess it's hit or miss with that because it is SF and and urban setting where cars or more often stolen and broken into. The campus police were awful when it came to having to report our car stolen though and forced us to sign a waiver that said if our car showed up in the city of San Francisco and there where parking/towing tickets or fees that we are responsible for them. Greedy San Francisco.
  • San Francisco is insanely expensive and half of it is super low-par quality. Food, various costs, rent - Expect people charging far more than the quality of what they're offering simply because people pay for it and don't complain about the quality, simply continuing the vicious cycle by being too confrontational.
  • No good food on campus. All snacks and pretty bad cafeteria food. One Salvadorian food truck comes on campus which is ok and theres a whole foods and some other food in walking distance a block or two from campus.
  • Teachers definitely deserve more recognition that they get at this school. They are wonderful!
