Going back to revisit my education was a life-decision that I wish I hadn't wasted on SUNY Empire State College. I have been based out of metro, in New York City, however the school is headquartered in Saratoga Springs. None of the administrative staff really knows the student body because of a condition we've come to call the "Saratoga Complex" and although there are people who travel from unit to unit, they're mostly there to put the fear of of the college president's office into the faculty and local professional staff. It's not really about "building relationships". All around it's not a school run by people who want to create a welcoming, free-thinking environment, but people who want a conformist, live in fear sort of culture.

Additionally, if you're a white male and you're a straight A student, that doesn't mean anything to anyone there. Basically, you're expected to do well academically. But if you're black and a straight A student, they'll appoint you to all sort of leadership position. If you're black and woman? Forget it. You just may be recommended for the SUNY Chancellor's award. The racism exists for one reason: the college's sales angle towards New York State's urban centers. Just prepare for that.
