When I first arrived at Marlboro College, I thought that I was going to be doing work at the college of my dreams. The end result was a complete shit show. I will say that the education is amazing, and that the teachers here are completely dedicated to their craft and to working with the students. They are available, and go the extra mile to make themselves accessible. I must emphasize that the administration does next to nothing about sexual assault and rape. We had SIX Title IX cases last semester. Six. At a school where you should feel safe because you can see pretty much all of campus from the dining hall windows.

The end result was students taking matters into their own hands, which led to near violent protesting. I cannot honestly say that I recommend that anyone goes here. There's an unsafe lack of lighting on campus, which makes it very dangerous to walk around at night. The emergency paging systems? They don't fucking work. This is VERY distressing, especially in an emergency.

This school has excellent academics, but I'm more concerned about the safety of anyone who comes here. Sexual misconduct needs to be more seriously addressed, as there are multiple students here that have been accused of assault/rape that are still on campus. At a school of 190 (and dropping), this is a major issue.

The social life at the school is great if you fit in with the people around you, but if you are in any way a misfit, you will have a difficult time finding a niche here and will feel extremely isolated. If you are okay with that isolation, that is alright. However, if you are a misfit that has a hard time fitting in with most people, I wish you luck.

If you do decide to come to campus, consider living in the cottages to get away from the limited social life or living in nearby Brattleboro. There are some truly wonderful people, but if you do come here, look outside of the hive mentality that permeates the campus and keep to a small social circle. Brattleboro's a beautiful place. The food here is amazing, however, and the dining hall staff are extremely sweet and dedicated.
