While Guilford College is far from perfect, some of the negative comments on here distort the reality of some of the great aspects of being a Guilfordian. I graduated in 2014 with a double major in History and Religious Studies, and along the way took classes in a number of different fields, some with professors were only ok, some who were poor teachers, and some who were phenomenal (especially Damon Akins, Eric Mortensen, and the late Jeff Jeske) who captivated me with their depth of knowledge and passion for their field of study. Some of the other commenters mentioned Anti-Semitism as an issue. I am not from a Jewish family background, but contemplated converting to Judaism as a student at Guilford (I am half Arab Muslim on my father's and British Christian on my mother's) and never witnessed any kind of virulent anti-semitism on campus. There is an active SJP (Student's for Justice in Palestine) on campus which tries to raise awareness of social justice issues in that region and supports BDS, but that is not the same as Anti-Semitism.

As for the others commenting on the Student body roughly following into either stoned out druggies, athletes, or close-minded SJWs this is inaccurate. There is drug use here as there is on most campuses but it it is far from ubiquitous. There are many different kinds of individuals at Guilford with unique personalities who are here for individual reasons. The hipster/indie culture that surrounds the Greenleaf and the WQFS was/is cliquish and annoying during my time there (not that there aren't individually cool people at those places, just the whole vibe I mean), Guilford's campus is only 20 minutes by bus from the UNCG area and Downtown Greensboro which offer plenty of diversions for those seeking to escape the Guilford bubble.

The only other caveat I will say about Guilford is that this is a liberal arts school—you will learn to think and write here but don't come in expecting to cash in big $$ after graduation as the focus here is not on striving for a career—which is not the reason one should be in college anyways (though the skills you learn at Guilford might very well pay off in ones future work pursuits). Diversity on campus could also be improved, both racially and politically as the community is both predominately white and left-leaning. However, in sum, I think I received a unique and valuable experiences through the close-knit and academically challenging experience provided by Guilford and would encourage anyone looking for a unique liberal arts experience to give this school a chance.
