Emory and Henry is a wonderful place to go if you want the small college experience.
While there is not much to do in the surrounding area if you are used to living in areas with a lot of businesses nearby, it makes up for this with culture. There are many art studios as well as small businesses and coffee shops a few minutes down the road, and the famous State Theatre of Virginia, The Barter Theatre, a few minutes down the road. Additionally, the college provides many fun activities for night life, and the numerous Fraternities on campus keep things interesting. Not to mention the gorgeous scenery, and outstanding outdoor activates that are available for students. There are trails available for hiking, some college sponsored, as well as kayaking opportunities (The college even offers workshops for these), and even rock climbing!

As for the professors and staff, I have never met friendlier people in my life. They make sure the students succeed, and challenge us to think with the assignments, but balance it well enough that getting assignments done are easy to manage. They are often never opposed to taking time out of their schedules to help out students, even if the student cannot attend the posted office hours. The theatre program here is also outstanding. There is a brand new state of the art theatre built here (as of 2016), and the professors here are all experienced in their craft, many being performers for respectable organizations before coming here.
Overall an outstanding college if you value small college life with friendly professors, and enjoy the outdoors and brotherhood that that can be found in the Fraternities/sororities.
