I transferred to various schools and UCONN was by far the worst of them all. When I first got to the school I loved it. It was difficult but it was fun and I thought I had good friends. Second semester my best friend and I got a random roommate and she seemed fine. WRONG. she had a best friend and that friend had a boyfriend. And the boyfriend was interested in me. After saying no over and over, he eventually raped me after a night of drinking and continuous ?no?s.? I told resident life because my roommate started threatening me telling me it was my fault, and I had torn my ACL during intramural basketball two days prior. I did not feel safe and sought help. The hall director said ?this is a friend problem, so we will not be moving you to another room?. After continuous threats and a deteriorating mental state I decided to withdraw from the university and it was the BEST decision I ever made. After telling the dean my reason for leaving, she simply said, ?that is so wrong. Can I move you now? We?re gonna work with Love (hall director) to handle situations like this better.? At this point it was too late and they did not end up following up or doing anything to prevent further instances. I later found out that it is not uncommon for women to get raped at UConn and for them to take zero action. If you care about your safety - do not go here.
