This school has wonderful teachers, who are held back by administration. There is a lack of strong, tuned-in administration. The campus police are next to useless, if not downright destructive. My girlfriend was sleeping in her dorm room, and her roommate brought a guy in after hours (not allowed on this campus). Around 1 in the morning he tried to break into her room, but couldn't get the door open without damaging it. Once she heard him shouting at her roommate later, she went to the police, who were right outside doing rounds, and reported the incident, saying there was a man in her room who tried to break in. He chuckled, saying he would get to it if he had time. I guess he didn't have time, because it took them two more weeks to get the man out of that apartment. On the administrative side, there are many courses that are well-intended, but ultimately useless or just for show. Many of these include diversity awareness and anti-hazing lectures that the university makes manditory. I think it is funny that we raise our voices about diversity to the administration, and they respond by teaching us about what diversity is "really" about.Additionally, they host many events that are more or less for media's attention, while ignoring the sorry state of our student facilities. Our student union building is full of black mold, which they do nothing about. Their solution was to try and charge us an extra $100 to knock the building down and build a new one, with vague promises about when this would happen. Meanwhile, incredible amounts of money go to our lousy football team that is lucky if they win a game.McNeese is a wonderful college if you are going back to school, need a cheap but great education, or aren't concerned with campus life or the college experience. But if you were looking to enjoy life outside of classes, run away because administration will drive you crazy. |
