I am a third-year student at Soka. As an international student, I appreciate the supportive environment at Soka. For example, Soka has a writing center, which helps any level of writers. Especially when I was the first year, they helped me a lot with my grammar. A unique feature of Soka is a diverse student body. International students are about 50%. A good thing about the diversity is that students could make friends from different backgrounds. However, students from similar backgrounds tend to stick together, so it requires efforts to enjoy the advantage of the diversity. Also, some larger groups tend to be represented more than the others. It is a challenge to overcome this issue.Another unique point of Soka is a required study abroad for a semester in a junior year. Students take language classes from their first year to prepare for the study abroad program. Students can choose from four languages, Spanish, French, Japanese, and Chinese. The experiences of study abroad differ depending on students, but definitely, this provides a unique experience with students. |
