I attended this school because it was the most affordable option. If I could have gone to a different school then I would have. Communication tends to be poor between students and a good portion of the staff, you might not get a response for a couple of days. A lot of the beginning courses for the Nursing Program are completely useless and, in my opinion, are only required so that the school can charge you the money.

The school is very much one-sided in terms of politics and social views. Whenever something happens involving another ethnicity/race that makes news headlines, the President (Dr. Glenn Cummings) sends out a very long email to everyone at USM. He frequently jumps to his own conclusions on things before the actual situation has even been resolved or all the facts are out. He talks about the virus that infects the United States and how it has been woven into the 'fibers of our world'. Not once has he ever commented on any tragedies that involve Caucasian people. It can often be surmised from his responses that it's alright for one race/ethnicity to react with indignation or violence because of what happened to their ancestors hundreds of years ago, but anyone else who reacts this way is in the wrong. His responses to events/tragedies that have nothing to do with our state, town, school, etc. only perpetuates the problem and his continued comments that people are racist and that those of African, Muslim, etc. descent are always at a disadvantage are highly inappropriate and inaccurate.

Does racism still happen in the world? Yes.

Do people who are Caucasian need to make amends for the things that happened to other races 200+ years ago? No. What happened to those people was a monstrosity, but it did not happen to the people in today's society.

Does everything bad that happens to someone of another race/ethnicity have a racist component? No. Bad or unfair things happen to everyone, but my first conclusion is not that whatever happened to me was because of my race/ethnicity.
