Wake Forest is unique, and as so itBrightEconomics
Wake Forest is unique, and as so it needs students who will love its uniqueness and thrive under it.
The courses are great for the most part. Be aware of grade deflation: You WILL get a lesser grade than you deserve in 75%+ of your classes. High School Valedictorians become the average student here, because it truly takes intelligence to be successful. (Or a large amount of effort.) Almost all courses involve something you will not like, and I would not advise coming here if the fact that they don't have your major bugs you.

Overall, the price is NOT worth the education you get, so unless you have absurd amounts of money or have a great amount of scholarships, I'd apply elsewhere.

The campus is beautiful and is kept up to a just-above average level. I'd bring your own supplies for that in case it isn't done to the extent you'd like. If its enough of a problem though you can call and they'll take care of it.

My main gripe about Wake is the social scene. It is good for some, bad for others. Its mainly a "Get in quick, or you lose" kind of scenario. Its never hard to make friends, but getting into Greek life is difficult if not done the first chance you get, and near impossible after the first semester of your sophomore year.

Parties aren't too great sometimes. There's no social aspect for the most part. Its a dark lounge with a bunch of people jumping around, which can be fun... but I dislike it usually. Sometimes people do stand outside the lounges though. (almost always at some places, like LXA), but it will usually kill the party inside. You could enjoy maybe 20% of the parties without being influenced. The majority of the population is rich, southern, white Christians. If you don't fit in now, its likely you won't. 50% of girls go greek and about a third of guys do I think. Its definitely more competitive for guys.

Wake is a great school with the perfectSuper BrilliantBusiness - Management and Administration
Wake is a great school with the perfect balance of academics and social life. The school size allows for interaction with the professors and participation in research projects. Andy Chan in the Career Development office was a great addition to the advisement opportunities. The completion of the undergraduate business school and upperclassmen dorm will be phenomenal. In addition, Steve Reinemund will add tremendous leadership to the business school programs.

$$$ That's all Wake Forest seems to be concerned about, is you wallet. The school itself charges an exorbitant amount for tuition and plans to keep raising it several thousand dollars each year in the next 3 or 4 years. You'll get slapped left and right with fees and surcharges! You buy your books and then are forced to pay for your own Webassign accounts and Applia and if you don't you fail the course because your teachers are probably wrapped up with their own research and don't have time to care about your performance. Good luck parking your car anywhere within a mile of campus because all the lots near school are for commuters and if your unloading stuff to your dorm room expect to get a fine, even if school is out. Did you forget to become friends with your drunk RA? Hope he doesn't report you for not vacuuming your room over break, and good luck appealing any of your tickets and fines because "you were issued a ticket so you must've done something wrong."Everything here is about what your parents own and who has the biggest beach house. The student body as a whole is pretentious. The academics are okay, but it's mostly just busywork assignments that you've already done in HS except the teachers expect it their way or you're doing it wrong. They don't care if you're learning the material, just that you're filling in the right answers. I'd say it's a fair bet to announce that half the math department doesn't speak english, I had a calc teacher who could just point from one line of a problem to the next and say "this go to this" If you're a smart kid and want a decent education go somewhere where they actually care about you and not just so they can spend your tuition on some fancy new welcome center or lame commercial.
