Hard class, with loads of reading.  I learned a lot from this teacher .  .  .  listen well.
Should do to do well...
Be ready for a lot of note-taking and some probing questions.  She's a supreme logician and does not settle for superficiality.
Should know...
Write with unity and progression and do all the reading.  Expect a few low quiz grades, but don't worry, they come out in the wash, unless you have a lot of bad quizzes.

The class was excellent.  Be especially attentive in the section on Spenser.  Powerful stuff!!
Should do to do well...
Read thoroughly even the dry assignments.  Take your time on the hard and old reading.  You'll need some background knowledge before you take this class.  I suggest finding a good introduction to the English Renaissance on video or perhaps a short book on that period's literature.  Taking a History of England course could only help you also.
Should know...
Write with logical form and technical precision.  She will work with you if you get stuck on a thesis or you need help on research.  Don't be afraid to ask for help, but try to know what you need to avoid annoying her.
Student Competency: Unusually High

Good, but I wish the section were smaller so I was not herded in.  The dept.  should limit section size in literature class so ensure strong interaction with the great teachers.
Should do to do well...
In British Literature, listen well and take thorough notes.  Expect a killer first test, and do well.  She will have you in to her office to express her disgust for your low grade if you get one.
Should know...
Take notes and try to read every assignment.  Ask for help if you need it with those literary analysis papers.  Don't be intimidated by Dr.  Silvester.  Like her father, whom I remember fondly, she really does care, but sometimes comes across as harsh.

STUDY.  Take notes (use a computer if you can).  Write down everything she says.  And memorize it.

Incredible teacher!  super fast speaker and tough grader.
Loves all three classes I had with Mrs.  Silvester.  I had her for Sixteenth Century, Brit.  Lit., and CLAM Lit.  All comments are true here: brain will ache, ears too.  She does yell occasionally but not at students.  She asks tough questions and then follows up on shallow answers, so beware.  She loves unity and progression in writing, so spend extra effort on that.  Note-taking is painful, so bring a tape player if she'll let you.  I swear you'll always remember this teacher and appreciate her amazing expertise.  Her dad was another amazing intellectual ... If you missed him, too bad for you.
I'm so glad you're back to eating vgeeigs- 15w is when I turned the corner too.  I hope the morning sickness goes away soon.  You look great I always knew I'd have a boy first.  So when I heard girl at 17w, I was shocked and had a hard time picking out girl stuff.  I'd never have guessed the u/s was wrong, but when they told me boy at 20w, it just made soooo much more sense.  So long story short- trust your gut!
