The class is not too hard and is somewhat interesting.  You will learn some things.
Should do to do well...
Should not express any disagreement with his already established opinions regarding literature, teaching or even a book or author.
Should know...
By being a mimic of the instructor

Boring, and very little to learn.  You'll learn nothing about literature, but lots about how having flat, undeveloped characters “get saved,” “backslide,” experience “revival” and “evangelize” their family is the sum of good Christian literature.
Should do to do well...
Make sure you find out if any of the books you have to choose from to review are secretly favorites of his or written by relatives of people in his church or life.  Avoid if possible.  If you cannot, make sure you give the book a good review.  Avoid saying anything negative about books printed by BJU Press, either.
Should know...
The surest way is to suck up to the teacher, or parrot his views.  The same was true in the other class I took from him.  (No longer offered).  This teacher is threatened by independent thought or any kind of challenge in thinking.  He also was renowned among the education majors in my time ('94-'98) for personifying all the teaching mistakes we were learning about in other classes.  To this day, I still meet people who either took classes from him or worked with him at LINC who were appalled by his arrogance, poor teaching skills and inability to consider things objectively.
