This guy is a “my way or the highway” type of prof who doesn't know how to teach or help students evolve.  He was one of the lowest rated professors in the whole University when it came to end of the year student reviews and yet somehow kept his job.

Should do to do well...
To pass, value style over substance and make Hunter feel like the god he thinks he is.  He is incredibly rude and condescending and acts the prima donna without having substance to back it up or teaching skill to alleviate the distaste he leaves you with

It is interesting how the first commenter considers themselves and “expert” yet received an “F” in the class.  Such is the problem with an open enrollment program like AAU in that idiots with an internet connection proliferate the program and are the first to mouth-off — even the MFA students don't have design BFAs, so bringing an instructor's qualifications into question is ironic.  AAU is taught be people who have experience, which is more important than a degree in this field.  This instructor generally receives the highest, not the lowest, reviews in the department.  Unfortunately, it seems Student Review is an outlet for axe-grinding rather than honest, accurate reviews... heck, reviews aren't even verified.

Should do to do well...
Beware of this instructor Hunter Wimmer.  He hates his job and thinks his students are all “idiots”.  He had a large amount of bad feedback last year and was busted posting positive feedback for himself.  He literaly went on a tyraid.  Do yourself a favor and stay away from this poor excuse for a teacher.  He has no real people skills and hates to see others succeed.  He is not to be trusted and is a danger to the community.

Do not take this instructor.  He is bar far the worst ever.  He hates teaching and only does it because he was fired from his last job.  He takes out his frustrations in life on his students and is very hateful twords others.  He says bad things about others that are not true and makes fun of people in public.  He's posted positive feedback in this thread calling his students idiots.  You can tell the positives were written by Hunter himself.  A horrible little man.

He is a person who thinks that he knows everything best, but the truth is he knows nothing, absolutely nothing.  His critiques doesn't make any sense, nor his point of views about random things, he lives in his little computer, and this blinds him to learn about the real world.  I don't blame the people who let him keeps his job, they don't know much either.  There are a lot of great teachers in this school, and he just doesn't fit with them.

Should do to do well...
if you can avoid, then i strongly consider that you avoid him, but it's not really possible is it.

Should know...
shake your head, say yes, and do what he says you to do, don't try to be creative, just copy other peoples work, and be like his little puppet.  anything comes from his classes looks like each other anyway.

Just because his friend put him into a teaching position, does not mean that Wimmer is a good and qualified teacher.  Unfortunately, only the opposite: Wimmer is very arrogant, inappropriate in his comments, not a good designer himself, and has just a B.A. teaching masters program.  Very disappointed with this teacher.

I think there are better teachers than H.Wimmer for this job.  Very inadequate teacher, and the sad part is, he writes the good reviews about himself here cause no one else will.  If you can avoid him teaching a class - you will be better off with another instructor!

GOOD: A good teacher.  He knows how to make a class interesting and teaches in a very positive fashion.  Uses computer presentations and many other resources in order to share his knowledge with students.

BAD:Grading is totally arbitrary but that is the nature of the AAU Graphic Design program.

He is a bad instructor.  He likes to have fun and make some stupid jokes in class.  He also likes to pull students' legs and say something bad to others.

Do not respect students!

First off, those students who said the got “A"s and posted a bad review—they didn't A's.  If you took the class, you'd know.

Secondly, Hunter's one of my favorite teachers I've ever had, undergrad and high school included.  He's a hilarious instructor with awesome experience, and he's extremely involved with the students.  It's really obvious that he's a dedicated teacher and it sucks that people could think otherwise.

He basically set up and runs the whole program's listserv, as well as multiple email groups for multiple classes, and has personally answered every single question students post.  Even though he has hundreds of students, he remembers each of us and will frequently send out articles for specific students that he thinks will help their project.  He's pretty much the only instructor that cares to get involved outside of class.  Just a few weeks ago, he ran a bookbinding workshop that lasted all afternoon, and made us all printing presses.  Yeah, he made them.

So in response, I'm sorry there are those of you who are all bitter about your grade or whatever, but it's f'd up to knock Hunter when he's such a dedicated teacher.  I have my own issues with the school and program as a whole, but seriously, he's a great teacher.

Give it up Hunter Wimmer.  Everyone knows it's you posting more positive feedback for yourself.
