Overall: A
He is a kind of socially awkward guy, but he actually puts effort into making sure his students learn what they need to learn to pass and to use the knowledge in future courses.  He is definitely a conservative, but open-minded to other ideas and loves creativity and passion in papers.

Unfortunately, the classes themselves are pointless because he just rambles on about the writing examples in the book that you can read yourself.  Plus, he goes over every example, stating every detail, and gives quizzes on the examples ( granted they're easy and you can pass by skimming, but they're still annoying.  it gives you more grades to balance out if you miss a class, but they are timed online and if your late, your screwed).

Also, if you don't have a wide-ranged sense of humor you might want to avoid him or suck it up.  He gives a “moment of humor” at the beginning of each class, which is great because they are usually entertaining, but of course he goes over every detail.  He feels embarrassed showing “lewd” clips (like if the word 'boob' is said) and his reasons behind his opinion are usually religious, which is fun for me because we often debate our opposing religious points of view, but if you can deal with the dry humor and incessant ramblings (they really aren't that bad.  I'm just forewarning) then this Professor is someone who will do everything in his power to ensure you pass his course.  He even held meetings on a Saturday because he regular appt times were full.

So, nice guy, awkward/shy personality, knows his stuff, extremely helpful, dry humor, loves it when you write about something your passionate about (and will give you a better grade), and when his opinions are challenged he is prepared for an intelligent debate so you better know your shit.

Should do to do well...
Don't be impatient, show up to every class, and

have a VERY open sense of humor.  Oh, Don't be repetitive in your papers and he gives a very detailed rubric so you know exactly what he wants.  He is also extremely available for extra help and encourages that you have him edit your paper before you turn it in to ensure a good grade.

Should know...
Intro Level Course

Don't skip the class and follow the rubric.  He does a pretty decent job of teaching undeveloped and even experienced writers how to expand their techniques and always work on improving.
