There is so much talking about the students behind their backs. It is very uncomfortable to find a professor you just met who knows more information about you than they should. This such a common occurrence that no one complains anymore. Almost immediately, you discover if you are in the 'in' crowd with the professors, which determines how much assistance you'll receive from them. The worst part is that this is usually decided without your knowledge, very soon after you arrive on campus. The 2 or 3 students in every class who the professors actually spend time with usually love Case and everyone else hates it. The most successful students at Case are those who kiss a lot of butt. If you are simply a student who works hard and tries to get along with everyone, it will not be enough to be successful at Case. Everyone really does seem unhappy, both students and faculity, at Case. One visiting prospective student was told by about 7 Case students on a Greenie (campus bus system) that it would be a terrible mistake to come to Case. I am here because I got a great scholarship, but I realize that I should have transferred after my freshman year. I believe that most of the positive remarks are just people who realize that the value of their degree would be substaintially less if the truth about Case ever got out. I jumped right into 300-level political science classes as a first-year, and was treated with respect by students and faculty, who expected the same level of work from a first-year as they would a junior or senior. To get the most out of a Case Western experience, you must be absolutely willing to put in the time and effort necessary- not just in schoolwork, but also in extracurriculars and student activities. Most of our classes, we have with other nursing students give or take 1 or 2 GER classes, so you don't necessarily have to fight for your class. Classes are relatively small and if you have a problem/question/concerns, the professor will do his or her best to help you out...to an extent. The first year of Nursing, freshmen are introduced to a clinical setting and eased into their role as a nurse. So I think it's really great in tat perspective and just really helps to prepare you as an RN with BSN background.
However, the social life here is not what I am comfortable with, since there is rarely anything that goes on for all of campus. Occasionally there are dances held by fraternities. I wished there were more social gatherings, but you just have to look in the right places and know the right people. Sometimes you just have to get creative.
The majority of students are here to get an education, and some are lucky to just be having a college experience.

Like many things in life, many students here don't know how great it is because they have nothing else to compare it to. Being a transfer student I can tell you; This is A GREAT University.

The faculty members are helpful and the University staff does a consistently wonderful job. Case is small (only about 10,000 students). But it employs an empressive number of faculty given its size. Hence, each student receives MUCH more attention than many other Universities (i.e., U. of Texas - 75,000 students, NYU - 45,000 students, etc.). This also means that the parties here are very different than the ones you find at bigger Universities. I wouldn't say worse, just very different.
