However, MVNU has proven itself worth of that and has even gone beyond every expectation. There are several activities throughout the year that allow you to get involved socially, politically, athletically, and so on.

Though religion is a key part of MVNU and the experience there it is not "shoved down your throat" as some like to say. Instead, Christianity is taught as a relationship and way to better life overall; it is not taught as a list of rules that one has to follow. Chapel is wonderful and the praie team does a great job of leading the student body in worship. Wednesdays are typically student testimony days, and those are the best. Joe Noonan, the chaplain, will always great you with a smile and "how are you?"

I have never felt judged or hated because my views are different than someone else's. Instead, I have been met with a "can you explain that, so that I can better understand your perspective?" Justice Talks are a great way to listen to others about a topic who might not have the same opinion as you. During my time, I have never felt that I was being shielded from the outside world. I am being educated to better understand those who do not agree with me.

Overall, MVNU is a university that will educate every aspect of the person, not just the chosen field. I am thankful for the impact that MVNU has had on me and wish that everyone got to experience the school like I have. I was an out-of-state student majoring in Music Education. When leaving high school, I had a 4.0 GPA and I scored a 30 on my ACT. Therefore, I considered myself pretty smart. While I will admit that not all departments are created equal here, the department that I was in was outstanding. My music professors were very challenging yet they cared about me as a person and truly wanted to see me succeed. After graduating, I most definitely consider them all friends. Now for the education professors. Most of my professors there were very challenging. It is no unknown fact that the education department at Mount Vernon is outstanding. Now that I have graduated and started work at an elementary school, I have come to realize that I have been prepared for this type of job since year 1 at the Naz. I feel confident and ready to start my career. If you are planning to do anything with education, I would suggest going to Mount Vernon Nazarene University. I majored in education and found myself to be leaps and bounds above other teachers when I accepted my first teaching position. I couldn't believe how well prepared I was! This is a university that wants all students to do well, and possibly, motivate them to make a difference in the world. Sure, there are negatives, but you will have that no matter where you go to college. I appreciated the safety of Mt. Vernon and the friendliness of the people I encountered. I can't say enough about the professors, especially in my major. They really taught me a great deal about what it takes to be a teacher.
My advice to you would be to consider all of your options when choosing a college. It is well known that MVNU's teacher education program is outstanding. I hear this often from other teachers in my building. You will be pushed and challenged, but it will make you a stronger individual. I highly recommend MVNU!
