The sheer magnitude of misconduct at this school is unforgivable. Firstly, housing has no idea what they are doing and they can not manage themselves or students to any degree of competence. Avoid living on campus as if your life depended on it (which may be a good choice because CPSO are invisible).

One of the most annoying instances of the administration was this year when I was retroactively billed because they gave me the incorrect balance at the start of the term. This was no measly sum either, it was 500$ which all but bankrupted me for the holiday season (because they billed me after about 9 or 10 weeks, in time to place a hold on my account for registration for the following term).

Next is the department I am most associated with, the art and design department. My primary quarrel with it is the curriculum isn't at all standardized. Many art instructors simply talk about what they like for several hours and make projects loosely related to what they think are good ideas. The atrocity of this decision is made visible after about one year of attending when people have yet to learn the concepts of design or even the most basic ideas.

University Studies is a joke and there is a reason why so few colleges use it. Portland State is basically a business school with other majors. I haven't learned anything in my criminal justice classes that I didn't already learn in community college. Be prepared to.be hounded by people while walking to class in the Park Blocks to give them money to support whatever cause they stand for. Seriously, you cannot walk across campus without one of the "clipboard people" asking you for money. Meeting people is insanely difficult if you're a commuter (which most of PSU is). Overall, I would have made a different choice if I had known the truth about PSU. Aside from the city and cheap instate tuition, I really do not believe there is any reason to consider attending this school. It is not a conventional college experience, which in itself is not necessarily a bad thing. But because of its largely commuter campus, meeting people is limited to the strict (and gross) dorms, where you're expected to exclusively socialize with the people on your floor. The level of drama within these environments is reminiscent of high school. Classes are usually big, and centered around lectures and lots of reading. The intro level courses have had issues with plagiarism, resulting in few essays being assigned outside of class if at all, which is a major disappointment for someone who actually enjoys writing. Essentially anybody is accepted to PSU, and I haven't heard of people being genuinely proud to be a student here or care about anything other than getting a degree and getting out.
