The in-depth and innovative knowledge really only comes to you the last year or two. The character I built was to hate my school, but love my friends and respect the few teachers who are there to educate, encourage, and inspire. This education got me a run-of-the mill job only because of the piece of paper it gave me. 1% of the knowledge I gained from Cal Poly was useful at my job. The rest I really learned doing the job. The school really taught me to hate, and I am a more depressed person because of it. Thankfully, wherever you go, you can find friends and some mentors to help pull you through. If you go to this school, focus on making friends and enjoying what the amazing city has to offer. Try to ignore any faults of the administration and work with your teachers to get through it all. The school only accomodates engineers, and the engineers think they are the only significant people who go to this school. The administration is awful, they do not make you feel welcome whatsoever and put holds on your account every single quarter. There is so much hype about the jobs they get you outside of college but it does not provide a good college experience whatsoever. People only want to hike and get blacked out drunk every day and the campus is not attractive whatsoever. There is no school pride at all, and the sports are awful. The Greek life is small and does not provide the feel of an actual college experience. Overall this school is a waste and you're better off going to a uc where you will get a real college experience and still get a quality education that will provide you with a quality job after undergraduate. I have attended/worked at 5 other universities in my life and the Cal Poly faculty is the most helpful, accessible and just generally happy about teaching and life. Faculty teach all their courses (no TAs or GAs) and all have office hours that they actually keep. Pretty amazing.
