Well at Hampton you will never have that experience. I don't even know where to start, the dorms and all buildings are trash. As much as we pay in tuition there are chalk boards in classrooms. There is Nothing around the school, you have to drive or catch a cab to go anywhere. The school is very isolated. Campus is boring and there is basically no greek life. There are so many stupid rules. The administrators are always worried about the wrong things. Dont get me wrong , everywhere you go there will be rules. But hampton University takes it to another level.There are hardly any food choices, either the cafe, chick-fil-a, pirates grill,subway,tropical smoothie,or university cafe, and some of those places don't even accept gourmet dollars. The school is such a disappointment. I regret ever coming here. The one good thing here is the marine Environmental Science program. All of the professors are brilliant. Since its such a small program you develop great bonds with all the professors in the department. There is no nightlife unless you consider turning up in the harbors fun. Which gets very old very quick. I feel as though hampton University use to be a great school but it has fallen very far down.

This isn't "Hillman" or anything like it. The students are typical black students , it's nothing new if you previously went to predominantly African american school. I wouldn't recommend this school to my worst enemy. But the students are an entirely different matter. I have never seen such snotty, self-absorbed, spoiled, stuck-up kids in my life! They seem to put more effort into their appearance and being "cool" than they do their schoolwork. Most students are what you would call "bougie", being from a fairly well-off (by black standards) family, but most don't have REAL money. They're commoners that have just enough money to buy Michael Kors and a 22 inch Brazilian weave, and think that makes them the "Bomb.com". They will put on what they think is dressing up to the 9's just to go to class, but little do they know that their exact same outfit can be seen on a manequin at Forever 21. The people here are almost all complete carbon copies of one another. Almost every girl wears leggings, a jean jacket, Ugg boots, and some type of designer purse, and if you do not wear this you will be viewed as some type of weirdo outsider. They all use the same slang, listen to the same music, and wear the same clothes, even though they will insist that "they just doin them" and that "they on they own swag." Every Friday there is a small party in the student center with a DJ that plays the same old hip-hop songs every week, where the most superficial of them all will dress to the 9's and show off their clothes. The Greeks will "stroll" (watered-down stepping) and everyone will just stand around as if they don't have anything better to do. Different organizations will host on-campus parties in the gym on Saturdays, and at these parties the predominant dance is "twerking", which is grinding on overdrive. I mean these are moves you should save for the bedroom. The music contains awful lyrics yet people will dance to it regardless. Yet these are the same people that are so quick to call someone "ratchet" (meaning ghetto) because they're having a bad hairday.
People are pretty cliquey, but if you're like them, you can hang out with any of them. If you're a little bit different in any way, like if you don't like hip-hop or you're not that into drinking and partying, I would NOT recommend coming here at all, because that is pretty much the social scene.
Hampton, Virginia is a pretty small city wih not much of a nightlife. Most cubs and bars are in Norfolk, across the bridge. Overall, Hampton University is a good school, but the social life sucks. You will practically have to advise yourself all four years. Unruly police officers/"security". And worst of all, this school sucks all of the life out of you. The teachers I had in the summer didn't teach anything it seemed like they didn't want to be their at all. The last thing I have to comment about is the cafe. The food in the cafe is horrible and I'm not kidding, I wouldn't feed the food they gave us to my dog. Honestly people just attend this college for the name itself.
