The BART station is only 1 mile from campus and the shuttle runs from campus to the BART pretty regularly- so that's a plus. The view over the city is fantastic.

Unfortunately, and probably due to budget cuts, the administration is disorganized and inept. Be sure to save copies of everything! I had to send my transcritps twice because they got 'lost.' You have to be on top of everything and keep careful records, or when charges pop up on your account they will be difficult to dispute. Everything takes so long, from getting accepted, to processing financial aid, having transcripts reviewed, and getting an advisor. The right hand does not know what the left is doing...I consider myself to be an understanding person, but I was frustrated with the red tape, hoops and gross incompetence I experienced almost on a daily basis. (I did learn to become more tenacious and assertive as a result- a plus.)

Do not live on campus unless you have to! The prices are ridiculous, and even if you are in an apt. you are required to get the 5 meal a week meal plan ($200. a month)- I would have been able to eat much healthuier meals if I had been able to use that money towards groceries. I checked the off-campus housing at the edge of campus and they are much less expensive and more spacious than on campus housing.

The classes I took felt like HS classes- lots of work in some, but unmotivating and disconnected to course outcomes and content.

One of the reasons I came here was for the ethnic and cultural diversity, but I found that people tend to hang out with others from their own ethnic group, and although I made connections within several 'groups,' I found many of the students to be closed minded and prejudiced. Very disappointing.

If you want an opportunity to go to a relatively inexpensive school that is located near SF, I suggest you go for a trimester or two for the experience. I loved the promimity to SF and took full advantage of it.

Good Luck!

If you go to the SCHOOL OF BUSINESS HERE AND GET A B.S. - or M.B.A. you will be a lot smarter than when you walked in. This college is nationally ranked in Business, and has been for a long long time. Many many folks get out of here and run Bay Area companies. The education cost is a bargain, and the views are spectacular. If you can put away your aspirations to get drunk nightly & laid each night - then get real with yourself and consider CAL STATE EAST BAY ... if not go to Chico State, many options in CSU system. But ask yourself, am I better off learning of playing these years away ??? But once in CSU East Bay, I understood that I was in the right place. Their School of Business is excellent. The department always picks the perfect textbooks and classes prepare students for the real world. The professors are very clever and honestly teach the tricks to getting jobs after graduation. Majority of the course materials always involve research papers, discussion, intense math, presentations and team work. In some classes, exam questions are concept based and if you don?t understand what you are studying you are not going to do well on them. The school has problem in retaining professors. Every year, at least two or three of them are replaced by new ones. So style of teaching keeps varying from year to year. Depending on the personality of the professors, some classes which seemed easy in the past can turn difficult in coming quarters. So there are a lot of challenges involved. You will never know what you are going to get! But this is going to prepare you for the real world for sure. After graduation, it is not difficult to get jobs. Big companies like Bank of America and Verizon welcome CSU Eastbay?s business students. I must also say that many professors are actually businessmen and they have connection with other companies. So if you network with them they will help you get jobs. Now there are some bad apples out there. Yes, they are professors by profession. The problem is that some of them cannot speak English properly. So they struggle while lecturing. They also prefer to copy and paste questions on the exam paper directly from test banks without reading them properly. In their classes, you will suffer. As for students, in the business building, they are very friendly. The rest of the school is a mess. Professors are disgruntled by administration; some literally won't teach; they simply read power point slide to you with no contextualization on the subject. The school wonders why so many students don't attend class. I can save an hour commute time, and $25 in cost by staying home and reading the slides myslef. Countless students express their frustration with this outside of class. The Class syllabus, curriculum, methods of instruction, home work, and testing methods are disorganized and disconnected. The lack of cohesion in the curriculum leaves you disoriented, and feeling like "what am I doing here". I was fortunate that some one else was paying the tution cost because if I had to pay out of pocket, I WOULD NOT HAVE STAYED at this University. I'm going to another school for my Master Degree. Further Professors treat the student body like it's high school, and the requirments often times are busy work with only half relevance. The biggest tradegty is there are a handful of great Professor at CSUEB, who care, teach, and impart useful education that you can take and apply in the real world. If you have an alternatvie choice I suggest you excersize it. Best of luck.

View, freshman dorms, and class size, two thumbs up....everything else is a disgrace. Im no genius yet I go to two classes out of ENTIRE quarter, study for 2 hours before the final and get an A- in the class. Processing financial aid for the first time takes about 3 months (no lie), and thats probably due to budget cuts. My AP English classes where twice as difficult as my English classes now. Books in the library are outdated. Upperclassmen dorms or moldy, classes....there are none because they fill within 2 min of registration. The list goes on and on.....but the view is nice :) Fri, 05 Mar 2010 03:01:00 GMT http://www.studentsreview.com/CA/CSUHW_comments.html
