But if you you start school 21+ and live off campus you will have a hard time getting with the "campus life." I had started going after serving in the military and the faculty are very helpful in making sure everything goes well. But the lack of diversity in the students and how closeminded some are is unfortunate. The longer I stayed the more I would hear students talking about drinking and doing drugs. Some of the students come from a very good background and seem to lack the understanding that others are not so fortunate. I have met some very smart individuals and people who want to succeed. If you are a bit older and have seen the world I would recommend finding a college with a bit more diversity so it would be easier to relate. But otherwise the academics are great and the professors are extremely helpful. If you are a veteran, there are no veteran organizations and no programs to help you transition (I had just came back from deployment)- if they are going to offer veteran benefits they should have some organization to help us transition with college life. But Roanoke College cares more about gen ed classes than your major classes. The dumb INQ classes will screw you up, and they are hard classes for no apparent reason. Your freshmen seminar class will basically be a specific learning based environment tied into English composition; I had 6 writing assignments in my first semester seminar class. Three of my very best friends left after their freshmen year, and they transferred elsewhere. People here are very close minded and stuck-up. The parties here are close to high school caliber parties, and most of the time there are about 3 fraternity parties on off campus housing per weekend. Some low-key parties during the weekdays. The brothers normally kick freshman males out, and I actually knew some girls who were not able to get into the parties. All in all, Roanoke's professors are basically locals who love the area and adore Roanoke College. Those INQ classes will be a tiring class for you.

-And also avoid, suite style living or single rooms because it is easier to meet more people this way, and you can chill out in the common room. If you decide to come here; you've been warned, but good luck.

In about 2009, Roanoke came up with a bunch of different goals and plans to pursue more business and for them to be in the top 100 schools for liberal arts. The INQ courses are basically really hard classes that are more than likely not transferable for obvious reasons. This school is all about business. The prerequisites are probably the most difficult out of all of your classes. I am a senior now, and soon going to VCU for graduate school. Roanoke has its disadvantages and advantages. Oh and if you don't play a sport, your gonna have to wait till second semester to rush a fraternity or sorortiy. Good Luck. And the average gpa is very low, it is really hard to even maintain a 2.8.

The classes aren't hard but the professors like giving out low grades because it shows that they are a challenging professor. A lot of professors get jobs here for research opportunities. The average course load per semester is 4 classes a semester; not 5. Some students can choose 5 classes, but it is not recommended. If you go to the professor a lot, then they will give you some slack for a grade bordering the next grade up. Just be aware of this school. Think long and hard.

Many graduated from boarding schools and were too stupid or lazy to get into an Ivy League, so they decided to attend a school which costs about the same as an Ivy, but is fairly crappy.

As a result, most of the students are rude, egotistical, snobby, and selfish. Social life revolves around Greek life entirely. Students are obsessed with cliques, to the point that certain tables in the cafeteria are known as belonging to certain groups, especially of sorawwwrity and frat groups. Students involved in Greek life are strongly discouraged from interacting with the "normal" people. Alcohol poisoning is extremely common.

The college administration is exceedingly deceitful, unhelpful, and conniving. The offices of the deans will do whatever necessary to cover up a mistake made by a faculty or staff member, or to cover up a scandal. The school's only priority is to fake its way to a reputation as an ideal school and get as much money as possible- student welfare is the absolute last thing on the administration's collective evil mind.

I am going to be a junior this year and I couldn?t possibly have asked for a better college experience so far! The campus is amazing! It is so well kept and the facilities are great. It was ranked the 18th most beautiful campus by the Princeton Review and I think it should be ranked higher. The academics at Roanoke are great too. The faculty and staff are so supportive of the students and they genuinely care about us. There are so many majors, minors, and concentrations to choose from, the options are great. There are so many different clubs and organizations at Roanoke; it?s very easy and fun to get involved on campus. One of my favorite things is the food. The Sutton Commons has some of the best food. They even have themed nights such as ?beach blast? where they have shrimp, king crab legs, and steak. It?s awesome. Sporting events are also very fun to attend. Roanoke has a lot of school spirit for their fellow Maroons. Roanoke College was ranked one of the top up and coming schools by US News and World Report, and I understand why. With our new exciting curriculum, renovation of old buildings, the construction of new buildings, Roanoke is definitely on the up and up.
