I've heard them complain about students over petty things. I've seen them use student's data for grant writing and publication without permission. DBOS in particular requires students to complete a "portfolio" which includes a multitude of tools and items you are required to submit (e.g., write a grant, publish a paper, advanced stats exam). The faculty drag out the approval of papers, grants, reports, even dissertations to keep students in school and paying tuition. It is a scam. If you ever find yourself in need of support (e.g., family leave, medical issues etc.) don't expect any support whatsoever. Recently a student's dissertation accepted after 37 (yes, 37) drafts, and they defended their dissertation. They passed their defense, but were then told they would have to complete 6 new analyses of the data and wouldn't be able to graduate until May! The student will now have to pay more tuition, delay their career, and delay a raise they would have received once they obtained their PhD. CGU is a SCAM. The campus is pretty, the enrollment/admissions folks are super nice. Once you're in though you are treated like crap. As much as they claim to be part of the Claremont Colleges, they are not. The financial arrangements the other colleges share as part of the consortium do NOT apply to CGU. Don't be fooled. For instance, I have learned that I love business and politics and was able to combine tracks and create my own program! The administration and faculty here are super friendly and accessible. They want you to be happy and leave a more developed student. It has been a wonderful experience so far. responsiveness of the administration, the support of the faculty and the personal attention I hoped to gain within the program all factored into my decision to come here.

The administration has worked very hard to create a community among faculty and students that is both intimate
and supportive. Professors truly care about their students and it translates directly into strong bonds and school pride. Thus far, I have been truly astounded by the amount of individual attention and compassionate communication I have had with the faculty. For example, it absolutely blows my mind that a certain Professor has taken me aside SEVERAL times over the last few months just to ask me how I am doing
and to see what I am getting out of his courses. This kind of interaction is rare. You see it is this kind of responsive relationship that has made my experience here so unique and challenging- and I share it with everyone! ☺
