I started National University a year ago and have learned and accomplished so much. My instructors have been beyond wonderful! All my science instructors have all earned a Ph.D in their field with years of experience teaching; they have all been amazing teachers. NU is for people who want to get their degree done in a reasonable amount of time while getting a quality education and thats it! Going to paries every weeked in not going to cut it here. The classes are fast paced and if your serious about your education and work hard you will succeed while taking with you valuable knowledge from each and every class. I was told that I only needed a certain number of classes to graduate and they DOUBLED it on me half way through my education. They have this thing they call "Upper Division General Ed". General Ed is for junior college not getting your BA. They also lied and told me that a certain class would fulfill more than one of their general ed requirements, and then they went back on their word. And of course, shockingly, when I was ready to graduate, they were waiting in the wings and told me that I didn't earn enough credits at NU and had to take yet another class. Of course, because I was supposed to graduate in June, this extra class didn't happen until August, and what do you know, financial aid stops in June. So they tell me to reapply for the next school year, I jump through all those hoops only to get a nasty collection call telling me that I have to have 13.5 units to qualify for financial aid. Why did they tell me to apply if I wasn't going to qualify? Because they lie, and cheat, and steal and they aren't happy unless they are making someone else miserable. Do not go to this school, they treat you like a number not a person and all they care about is getting as much money as possible from you. I assumed that with my single subject credential (from a Cal State University, you know, one of the credentialing schools that actually teach teachers) that I would come in with some transferable credits. Except they nickeled and dimed me out of my health, tech, and behavior management course work that I had completed in my previous cerd and undergrad. They even tried to tell me that I would have to take a government class, I told the adviser that that was one of the stupidest ideas I'd ever heard, I possessed a credential to teach history. I told her she had better figure out a way to remove that requirement before I walked out. I'm that kind of person, no apologies. There was nothing special about any course, not one course, not one has taught anything that would help a Special Education Candidate for Moderate/Severe in any possible way. I have on three occasions changed assignments and told professors I was changing the criteria because they failed to include me, and they were total honey badgers about it (didn't care), or took credit for the great idea. I usually have to explain things to others in that waste of time discussion board process where the really awesome students can share some amazing insight that can actually help me, but the "I would never be mean, because that's so wrong" type of student gets equal points. I only signed up with NU because I couldn't afford to waste my life and teach for free for 36 weeks in student teaching at a CSU. But now, I might land an internship so I am looking into transferring to a cheaper and better accommodated CSU school. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. Whereas once students mattered at National University, the opposite is true today.
Not only are the classes very expensive, but the vast majority of the professors are rude, disconnected from the students, do not teach much of anything relevant to your field. They could care less if you finish your degree or not. Go somewhere else that will appreciate your time and money. No student should have to put up with rude and incompetent professors.
