I'm lucky that I only had to experience two years at this school and not the whole four or five, I would have transferred out. The campus is very small and student housing is hard to come by. If you're lucky enough to get campus housing you will be charged an outlandish amount of money to live on campus. The school is very isolated from the city and it takes about forty minutes plus to get anywhere remotely fun. If you're looking for the typical college experience this school is not for you. Unless you decide to join a sorority or frat there are rarely house parties or anything fun for those of you who are under the legal drinking age. The psychology department is very unhelpful, probably because the major is impacted and you can definitely tell that it is. Choosing classes and actually getting it's them is nearly impossible and I've had to sacrifice my interests to take a class to fill requirements that I had zero interest in. DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL, YOU WILL HATE IT. I switched from Environmental Studies to Geography because of the professors. Like any university, there are good departments and bad ones. I cannot speak for the other departments. I came in as a freshman with 6 credits from AP tests. I am on track to graduate a semester early (Fall 2017). Many people will tell you that if you go to a state school you'll be there for at least five years. That's not necessarily the case. I've stayed on top of my graduation requirements without the help of an advisor (honestly, they're worthless). The school's website and your student portal give you all the information you need to stay on track. I live on campus. My freshman year I lived in Mary Ward (traditional dorms). It was great for meeting people. I am a naturally shy person and wouldn't have been able to meet as many friends if I had been in an on-campus apartment. But the dorms force you to socialize with other people. The only downside is the shared bathrooms (separate for men and women). Get used to shitting in public. This year I am living in UPN (on-campus apartments). I love it here. From the outside, they look like a drug addict's haven but they're actually nice on the inside. The RAs aren't all up in your shit like in the dorms, the Village, and the Towers. I don't even know who my RA is. I am considering living off campus next year, but as I'm sure you know, rent in this city is completely outrageous. The city is incredible, though. You can't ever claim to be bored. There's always something going on. I am not involved on campus. There are frats and sororities. I have friends in both and they love it. There isn't any sort of "sorority row" or anything like that. Some of them do get houses together, but don't expect that. Campus is located in a great spot not far from shopping centers, the beach, or public transportation. We're actually much closer to Daly City than to downtown SF, but there's a muni stop at the top of campus that can take you into the city in no time. I am originally from LA, so this whole public transportation thing was a bit of a shock for me. But I adjusted quickly. Buy a clipper card! You can get them on campus in the Cesar Chavez building or at Walgreens. This is a commuter school, so even though I did make a lot of friends in the dorms, it's tough making friends in your classes. I know so many people who commute every day from the East Bay, etc. It makes it hard to get to know them better. I love it here and I don't regret my decision to come here. However, I have two friends who are leaving after this year because they hate the school. It just comes down to your department and your attitude. If you want to party, we have parties. If you want to learn, we have good professors. If you want to be a hipster, you'll fit right in. If you're a vegetarian or vegan, you'll love it here. Campus is pretty dead on the weekends, but that just forces you to go out and explore the city. As pre-med student, you will be forced to take many classes that does not help you succeed in the "real world" almost all professors will make you study topics that they do not test you on. This school has a massive curve because, they the university requires professors to fail a certain number of students. Not at all, my courses at a community college were far more intense and work load heavy than they are here. They also had more direction than the courses here. Although the department has amazing professors, I feel like I haven't learned a lot from what I already knew from my community college.

The school isn't upkept very well. Things are always down and they take forever to fix them.

I also live on campus and if living off campus was cheaper, I would do that. I have had a HORRIBLE experience with housing on campus. All the staff cares about it money. I have had plenty of problems with my living situation and they don't really care. They take their time on "solving" it when in reality all they do is make the issue worse and then believe people who are clearly lying and exhibit sociopath behavior.

If I could transfer again, I would but I'm so close to graduating that I'm just sucking it up. They definitely wont be getting any donations out of my pocket.

I think there are a few reasons why my first year has been better than some other freshmen I know. I moved into the dorms, which made it much easier to meet people and make friends quickly. I know people who are living off-campus or in the Village and they have found it much harder to meet people. This is definitely a commuter school. The campus is pretty empty on the weekends. But, again, if you meet people in the dorms, they're most likely going to be sticking around. There are parties, you just need to talk to the right people to know where they are. Rate my professor has been really helpful in choosing classes. The reviews are accurate. You should definitely check that when making your schedule. SFSU is really more in Daly City than San Francisco, but it's a short MUNI ride into the city. It is very foggy and rainy here, so if you need the sun, don't go here. I highly recommend this university. Sat, 10 Jan 2015 05:25:41 GMT http://www.studentsreview.com/CA/SFSU_comments.html
