Unlike the REAL school at Ft. Collins this school is a certified joke. Entrance standards are low or non-existent. The course-work is more for middle-school aged students and the most challenging thing I ever had to do to pass a test was to put my name on a piece of paper. The students are basically academic rejects that were unable to get into the school of their choice or athletes with bloated egos that had did not have a choice but to come here and play if they wanted to remain active in their hobby. The faculty are nice but are more of the community college type and a few are extremely arrogant for they have become "big fish, in a small pond." Beware that this "college" accepts anyone and everyone and the standards are so low that they practically give you an A for showing up. This school does a great disservice to the rest of America's REAL Universities. Stick to Boulder, Ft. Collins and the like and you should be ok. I have transferred out to a much more challenging state university and it is the smartest thing I have ever done. I would never ever hire anyone in the near future that comes to me with a degree from this school. It is nothing short of a glorified paper mill that hands out diplomas in exchange for money. My experience at the University of Southern Colorado was fantastic. I was involved in student government and speech & debate. Our debate team was especially competitive as we ranked in the top Ten of The Nation in Cross-Examination debate from 1971
through 1982, among over 200 colleges & universities nation wide. As a representative of University of Southern Colorado
(and NOT CSU), my debate partners and I defeated teams from Harvard, Georgetown, UCLA, USC, US Air Force Academy, West Point, as well as regional rivals CSU, Colorado College, U of Wyoming, U of Utah and several others. I was sick to hear
my school was changed to CSU, which was our rival for many years. I am proud of my time at USC Pueblo. I am NOT an alum
and never will be an alum of CSU !

However, I have not found that the university's perceived bad reputation has hurt me professionally. In fact, I have a better job (and a better salary) than the vast majority of my friends from high school that attended more "prestigious" schools like CU-Boulder, CSU, Colorado College, and the Colorado School of Mines. Although it is probably an aberration, the most highly compensated people I know of the same age group attended USC. I personally found the faculty bright and competent, and the small class sizes beneficial for discussion and learning. I would tend to agree that many of the undergraduate students are not educationally prepared for a university setting, and that the university should strengthen its admissions standards. However, I would say that the vast majority of those students either did not graduate, or eventually found their academic footing in their 2nd or 3rd year. Most of my classes were a joke, I felt like I was taking classes in the junior high resource room. I also got the chance to correct papers for a class and could not believe how dumb some of the students were. They could barely read or write. Most of the athletes I have talked to have never taken the act or sat. Test days were a personal favorite of mine. After cramming all night long the questions consisted more or less of "what is your name?" "how will the broncos do?" ETC.. Hey! I'm paying for these classes I deserve better. I found the faculty arrogant and the administration uncooperative. Some professors I had would schedule a special class meeting early in the morning and then never show up. This happened quite a few times especially in recreation classes. English was also a joke. I spent a whole semester corecting "newsweek" magazine for grammatical errors. That is all we did for the entire semester. It didn't even make any sense. Doesn't the magazine have editors for this type of thing? I could go on and on about the pitfalls of this university- the food is poor- the athletics suck (no football team)-the town doesn't support the school-poor office communication-quite a few rich, dumb kids who couldn't get into college anywhere else-social scene is dead-student activites are poor... I wised up and transferred out. I did not want to see the schools name next to my own on my resume. Remember kids USC is only in it for the money, they could care less about you.
