If my four years have taught me anything, Georgetown is what you make of it. I have met some of the most amazing, inspiring people and I have also met complete and utter entitled pricks. It is up to you to decide whether you want to let the latter stand in the way of the former -- my experience got infinitely better once I decided to ignore the pricks and hang with those that amazed me.

Georgetown has an incredible city -- DC -- as its backdrop. Your experience will be better if you use it. Georgetown has a brilliant faculty that, often, deeply cares about you. Your experience will be better if you find a mentor and a department that you love. Georgetown students are active and involved in many different clubs. Your experience will be better if you participate. Georgetown is challenging, yet highly rewarding. Your experience will be worth it if you let it open your eyes.

I graduated a few weeks ago and I must say that I attribute everything to Georgetown. But, it takes hard work. There will be sleepless nights. There will questions about whether this is the right place for you. There will be tons of work and an onslaught of less than pleasant personalities. But, for every bad situation, there is an amazing college town, the best friends you'll ever make, and the most rewarding academic situation you can find. This is a school for hard workers and proactive individuals. If you are one of them -- I hope you become a Hoya too. I'm glad I did.

BUT, that was quite wrong. I'm not going to lie - if you're not a science major, it seems like Georgetown has some amazing faculty and people tend to actually really enjoy themselves here. However, as a science student, you spend hours on labs that are very poorly organized and conducted, in which the student TA who knows nothing about the lab is grading your assignments while the professor is too busy to talk to you herself. The premed classes are just awful - HUGE lecture classes of people where the professor stands at the front repeats exactly what is on the power point slides or in the book. Then, the tests have nothing to do with any of it and it gets old really quickly to all of us - trust me, not just me. The administration is very rigid and requirement oriented, which doesn't give you very much control over your own education. I wish I would have gone to Brown university or elsewhere as far as an education goes. However, that being said, the town of Georgetown is amazing and what keeps me going. It's gorgeous and there is soooo much to do in the city. Especially when you're 21, the town is a great place to be socially and it is all so close to campus.
