The campus, facilities and events were awesome. Sure, I stood in that long line at Financial Aid and got the run-around a few times, but I think it made me the man I am. The world is not fair and things dont always go your way. It was the same at FAMU. But, if you worked hard and kept at it, you could get the job done. The school is well known for its teachings in Florida, but really known for the band elsewhere. What a shame, but I would do it again if I could. Go FAMU! The business program and pharmacy program are amazing. Florida A&M produces more African American teachers in the US than any other school. Like others have said, there are going to be a lot of people who are not focued on school but just the social life. Most of these people will be in-state, because the in-state tuition is A LOT cheaper than out-of-state. 1 out of 2 people that attend are from the Miami area. The people are relatively friendly. A lot of students are involved in other activities. If you attend here, social life will definitely not be a problem. Your social life will be amazing if you get to know people. As for the cons, the campus could be a little better. The school maintains good maintenance, but the buildings could be in better condition even though they are not the worst. The city of Tallahassee does have some good spots, but definitely not many. It is a medium-sized city so if you are from a big city, visit first. The locals are relatively friendly as well. I haven't had any problems with them. If you are looking for a relatively good school with a great social life, then Florida A&M is for you. The only reason I was half-looking to transfer is because I wanted to attend a school that is more academically inclined. Like I said, but if you attend the pharmacy or business programs, you are looking at top notch programs. The professors cared about you. They made sure you came away from their course with more than what was in the text. Of course, your participation was key; if you didn't take advantage of every opportunity, you probably have a different opinion of the FAMU experience. My years at FAMU taught me to be critical of everything and not to take "No" for an answer. If I had more time, I would have pursued a double major. First of all if you are looking for a quality education at an HBCU, FAMU is not for you. The school has a great environment including a nice campus (nice weather, landscaping) and nice people. The only exception is that the gangster ghetto Floridians who come here for a social life, may start fighting or have a "shoot out in the cafe". Most students who go to school here are from Florida. If you look at the educational statistics for secondary school in this state you will understand everything I am about to say, quite clearly. A high percentage of students at FAMU are uneducated and ignorant to anything outside of the southern Black community. If you come here from the north you will feel a jolt back into the 1930's, when Black people did not have the opportunity to learn. During elections they all claimed to be democrats, yelling Kerry Kerry, because he will "give money to black people". All they want is a free handout because clearly if you ask them who Colin Powell, Condeleeza Rice, or Kofi Annan is....they won't know. Which clearly means they know nothing about politics. Another problem would be their terrible english. Ebonics? No way! Their language makes Ebonics look like common english. Anyway, basically the school molds itself to the academic level of these students. The work I do here now, I did in late middle school and the sad part is these kids still cant pass. Most of them do not even want a better life, they just want fast money and a sorry $30,000 a year. This school is a big after high school hangout. Everything is about clothes, music, and cars. Speaking of which, the in-state students pay about $1600 a semester for tuition and get about $6000 in aid. Now you know what these sorry students who have never had anything do......buy cars, Sean John, and expensive cell phones. Do Not Waste Money and Come here. If you are a Floridian you need to go out of state so you can learn, unless you are going to UF,FSU, or UM. Wed, 06 Apr 2005 09:44:00 GMT http://www.studentsreview.com/FL/FAU_comments.html
