If you want to go to school next to the beach, go to UNC Wilmington! There, you will get an education that is worth you're money if you are seeking out-of-state schools. If you are a North Carolina resident, stay in North Carolina! Though NC has good schools like UNCW and NC State, Florida also has great state-supported colleges. With that said, if you are an out-of-stater determined to move to Florida, go to FIU, Miami, or UCF, not JU! Everything said below was right, and I had a very similar experience. Because I never had the opportunity to go, I graded this institution to the best of my ability. Here's how I know about this university: I was accepted a few years ago, and went to the student orientation in mid-July which gave me a good insight to how expensive the education is, and how unhelpful the faculty is. No lie! The reason I could'nt go was because of the cost, as I found out at the orientation. The 8 hour drive on I-95 south was a waste of time. I owed roughly 16k, and I had to go back to North Carolina the day after orientation. At the time I was dissapointed, but now I realize what a blessing it was! Thank God I am in North Carolina and not there! In regards to the Naval Science program at JU, everything said about that was true. If you hold an A.A. or A.S. from a community college, you're screwed getting accepted into the NROTC program, with or without a scholarship! If you are from Jacksonville don't make my mistake and go here go somewhere else. FSCJ is better then JU. Teachers are arrogant and dont really care about the students, they just talk thru lecture no explaining the subject no real teaching from the majority of the teachers and the students are stuck upand think they are better then you because there family has money. I HATE JU. Some of the other programs lack, but overall the faculty is very helpful and friendly. Food is great and the campus is beautiful. You will meet a lot of very rich people here. It is pricey but if you can get financial aid and are going into aviation, marine science, or nursing i say do it. Other programs unless you have a great scholarship i'm not so sure. I thought what you're thinking, beach, girls, weather etc. The school is overpriced, if you are going to pay this much to go to a school go to UNF. The quality of the education is pittiful. The people are closed minded and clicky. the "frats" and "sororities" are just absolutely pitiful, they have "frat halls" not houses, they are so full of themselves they think the run the campus and are always in khaki shorts and plaid button ups like they attend a real frat like Alabama. If you have the money to spend and cannot get into a good school this is the place for you. There is absolutely no reason for someone who lives in florida to attend this school, please attend a public university and pay $6k a year and not $35k. You will come out of this school in debt (or your parents) up to your eyeballs and your employer will see you went to a mediocre school with one of the HIGHEST retention rates in the whole country. I transferred to the University of Maryland and am happier than ever and am getting a top notch education at 1/3 of the price, and you know what the weather isn't too bad because just like you I grew up here. You wouldn't pay $100k for a '98 civic would you? because by going here that is the same logic you are using. Buy an affordable practical car, metaphorically speaking of course.

Attend this school if your parents have money to blow, you already have friends in NE Florida, you don't mind living in a dorm room for the mandatory 2 years(the RA's are ridiculous), you didn't get in anywhere else (actually I would have rather gone to Wor-wic community college), or you just don't plan on living long enough to every see your maxed out credit cards paying for your maximum allowed student loans with the gov't and wells fargo.

The graduation process is harder than any class they offer in that they try to keep you from leaving and after paying nearly $120,000 for a terrible education, they decide to ask for more money in donations. When I was in the process of graduating, they never informed me for 6 months that there was more paper work that had "come up" that I would have to complete. After having to buy a plane ticket to Florida, being an out of state student, I thought everything was complete. I then began waiting for my diploma to come in the mail. Another 6 months go by with out attaining any information from the school, I call to determine where my diploma was, they then say I would have to return to JU to take care of more of this mysterious paper work that keeps popping up. I still am in the process of attaining the hard copy of my diploma and its coming up and 1.5 years after my real graduation. This school has a financial aid department that makes you jump through hoops for even the simplest of tasks. I would not recommend this school to anyone, and if in the end you decide to go to JU, You will understand real fast what i am talking about. JU IS TERRIBLE Tue, 17 Jul 2012 08:35:48 GMT http://www.studentsreview.com/FL/JU_comments.html
