What a great time! Meet great people and had a blast going to the Shangrala Bar located in the trailer park next to the campus. The "Shang" was really the only thing to do in the area, but we made the most of it. Meade Heights was a great place to live - small houses that were formerly used by the Air Force Base. I hear they have torn these houses down -what a shame. You could always find a party in Meade Heights. PSU Harrisburg back in the 80's was what you made of it, and I am sure it is the same way now. The biggest complaint I had about the school was all the engineering professors were from the middle east and could not speak english - made it a little hard to learn, but we made it through. I never take any of these reviews too seriously because its all relative, but most have it correct.

The social aspect of PSH is the worst part of the entire experience. There is absolutely nothing to do, unless you can go home. I am not a drinker or partner which makes it even worse, but even if I was the parties are terrible anyway, they all get busted fairly quickly. The first week gave the worst reflection of what the campus is actually like. Everyone hung out outside their dorms in the quad and met each other. There were many events throughout the entire school, and it was great. After the first two weeks, though, it decreased fairly quickly. There is an event occasionally, which are usually fun, but its very rare to have one. The residence life staff are the only ones working to put events together, and its slow at that. I have never used the phrase "bored to death" as much as I have since I got here. I am not exaggerating. If you don't have car too, forget about it. You will go crazy.

The campus itself is beautiful, especially in the fall. Penn state does a great job at keeping up with it. Outside the campus though, is, in lack of better terms, a shit hole. Middletown is a dying town with people who do NOT want you there. They are miserable olde people that will do anything to get you away.

Academics are very good at PSH. You will. Undoubtedly be challenged in a good portion of your classes. Most of your processors are "doctors." You get out of it what you give into it. If you do nothing and do the bare minimum to pass, that is what you'll get out of it. Take advantage of the fantastic processor faculty, they are VERY smart and are very willing to help you.

As far as the staff goes, the teachers are very smart and very helpful. That's probably the best thing at PSH. You can get a fantastic education, if you don't mind being bored to death in the process.

The advising is TERRIBLE. Do your own research and be proactive into your own. Use the advising staff as the last step to just see if there are any helpful hints. The other clerical staff is bad as well. They are rude, mean, and not helpful at all. They seem like they hate their life and just don't want to be there.

The residence life staff is amazing, though. They are so friendly, so kind, and extremely outgoing. Put yourself out there with them, they are definitely worth getting to know. The RAs, being a part of that staff, are just as awesome. They're all so friendly and so nice. Very helpful and are willing to go out of their way.

All in all, PSH is a great school. But the amount of boredom and nothingness that ensues from this school are so much greater than everything else and unfortunately shadow and take away from the campus itself. I would NOT suggest coming here UNLESS you stay inside all day every day. I, along with MANY others are transferring out next semester, along with many fall of next year.

Looking to risk having your stuff stolen in your on campus apartment? Maybe have your car broken into in the unprotected lot? What about attend a college in the middle of an industrial town that hasn't updated anything in 15 years? Then attend Penn State Harrisburg.

The problem is the social experience at Penn state harrisburg. The school is placed in the middle of a dying industrial area. There is literally nothing to do off campus after 9pm. Do you know why? Everyone that lives in the town hates the fact that a college is there. The township does nothing to increase what it offers and the police force will do everything possible to make your life a living hell. Considering they offer nothing else, you may want to attend a party. What if its just to network and have one drink? Nope. Don't do it. They WILL find something to get you in trouble for, even if you are of age. The police don't want you in their town to begin with (and they'll even tell you this) so if they can find charges to press they will.

Let's go back to the theft. I knew about 8 people that had expensive electronics stolen out of their apartment on campus. I even knew multiple people that had the windows of their car broken to steal car stereos. You would think that campus security would have cameras that could catch this type of thing. No, at least not as of 2008. Let's just hope you have insurance that covers theft and you enjoy filing claims.

Let's go a different route entirely - what if you like to stay up late to study? Let's hope that you have roommates that aren't obnoxious, because if they are and you want to go somewhere else to study - you can't! The library closes at 11 (except for a tiny section with five computers) and there is NOWHERE else to go. Not on campus and not off of campus - no coffee shop, no bookstore.

I'll give you this, the professors are great, in fact - the whole academic side of the school is great. The campus looks nice, the food is fine, the apartments are impressive, and the classes and labs really are informative. The rest of it is awful. At least it was when I attended - maybe they made some changes. But I know that looking back at when I was there, I wish I had chosen to spend that part of my life elsewhere.
